Stress the Tissues
Thoughts from: Jarred Boyd, PT, DPT, MSAT, SCS, CSCS | Director of Rehab, Memphis Grizzlies
One potential reason behind intentionally stressing tissues (particularly subsequent macroscopic insult) is to facilitate – Performance Potential via an augmentation of material + mechanical + morphological + neural ingredients of the neuromuscular apparatus.
These adaptations may amplify the relevant constituents for the organism to solve the biomechanical tasks with a broad range of impulse solutions.
Essentially can we induce the appropriate/relevant stress [led by power/duration + load/velocity + force/time relationships, etc.] to encourage a spectrum of time-based force application solutions [absolute strength – explosive strength – reactive strength, etc.].
Perhaps this confers a higher degree of “variability”, to handle the chaos, as the athlete has the ability to generate peak, rate, and duration derived impulse – thus affording tactical solutions that engender an expanded kinematic boundary simple due to an expanded kinetic boundary
TLDR – “surfing the curve” isn’t relegated to non-injured individuals – it is likely imperative for long time loss + post-surgical cases as well
